Austin Hutcheon  Retired Soil Scientist who started working-life in NE Scotland as Research Assistant in the Soil Science Department of Aberdeen University.  Got a year's leave of absence from the department after getting blown up in a lab accident. Went to Nigeria as a soil surveyor and never came back to try and settle and work in the UK. Eventually got on a plane in the UK on the day the company pension was to be paid and got off in Bhutan for three glorious years - what a swansong!

Always been into sports of most kinds and still at it though the legs and lungs are less willing.  Retired, well tried to retire, to New Zealand in late 2004 and finding the days and weeks too short for all the available activities. Still married and with 2 grand-daughters who live in Auckland, NZ

Still on the Committee of the Taupo Tramping Club (Publications and Web Master plus GPS use) and from April 2008 - present Club Captain of Taupo Harriers in charge of programming, web page, records, results and simple coaching at the club and local schools. Recently won a gold medal in North Island Cross Country Champs (NIXCC) MM70-74.

Bits and pieces about various jobs and countries easily accessed below.

Isabel Hutcheon  Isabel started working life as a teacher of French in the old Aberdeen Academy after teacher training and graduating from Aberdeen university.  She met Austin many moons ago at the old castle Jazz Club in Aberdeen. Isabel's career was hardly interrupted by the arrival of Ross then later on by Gail - not to mention teaching in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Yogyakarta (Java), Pontianak (Borneo) and in Bhutan.  The local language was studied in all places lived and fair competence achieved. UK teaching was mainly done at Chalney Girls in Luton from where she retired as a head of year to go to Bhutan

Also meant to be retired in New Zealand but does some voluntary teaching, some relief teaching if asked, delivers Meals on Wheels and is very heavily involved with the Taupo Tramping Club as Trip Coordinator and till this year was Treasurer of Taupo Harriers. Still also running a wee bit but the feet hurt too much now and inclined to go to the gym for circuits instead of a run. Also gets out on the "go-faster" road bike at weekends!
